To start this blog off I'd like to thank thewirecutter.com for all of their hard work and amazing reviews. I, like many of you, want to know what the best is in just about every category.
I rarely don't agree with thewirecutter's conclusions, but if in the chance I don't I'll post about it. The main thing I want to do with this blog is share my own experiences after doing my own research and coming to my own conclusions, as well as post about things that are difficult to find agreeable sources on, like bottled water, for instance.
I've been drinking bottled water for over a decade, and "Nestle Pure Life" is my water of choice. It has a relatively neutral pH level compared to competitors like Aquafina (4-5 pH), and Desani (similar). Nestle is about 7.3, which is about the same as Fiji water. If you try and lookup the pH levels on bottled water, you'll find conflicting results all across the web, ranging from professional studies to school-based research to in-home-just-for-fun research. For the most part, however, Nestle Pure Life is always a much more neutral water to drink than most.
In general, neutral is 7 pH. If you go higher than that it becomes more basic (or alkaline). If you go lower than 7 it becomes acidic.
I drank Aquafina for years, and mainly enjoyed it for the taste. After taking the time to read about the different waters and pH levels and all that, I decided to try out Pure Life. Weeks later, after drinking only the Nestle brand, I ran out and had only Aquafina left. The first Aquafina I tried in 2 weeks after making the switch gave me heartburn! I felt it right away, and never got it again after deciding to stick with Pure Life.
The only water I think is better than Nestle Pure Life is Fiji, which I consider a "step up" (thx wirecutter, hah). Fiji water is soft and nice and all that, but it's way too expensive for most people. I usually get a 32-pack of Pure Life for $4 or $5 at Wal-Mart. Someday, when I'm making more money than I know what to do with, (assuming Fiji water hasn't all dried up) I'll make the switch. Until then, I'll stick with Pure Life.
